Therapy Specialities

I am especially interested in working with people who are recovering from trauma, whether this trauma is a single incident, or a lifetime of traumatic incidents. Trauma freezes and paralyzes us. It interrupts the flow of moving forward, into the unknown future, with all our available resources. We all attempt, but often flounder, in our efforts to use our wounds for growth.

Trauma is imagination that is frozen in time. Therapy, at its best, thaws out the imagination and releases it into activity, creativity, and play. A vivid imagination heralds hope for your future.

Opening the imagination is delicate and powerful work, which is accomplished with care, compassion, mindfulness, and patience. There may be moments when the cure feels worse than the wound. There should also be moments of clarity, complete serenity, and even humor.

I have also worked with clients on a wide variety of other issues. I offer you the opportunity for intense attention to self-exploration in a safe, nourishing, and confidential environment. This is the environment to work on overcoming any emotional difficulties that have resulted in self-defeating patterns; either as an individual, a couple, or in the context of family relationships. Some of these issues may be:

  • Relationship Dynamics
  • Depression
  • Anxiety, Stress, and Panic attacks
  • Grief and Loss
  • Career Issues
  • Adolescent Issues
  • Communication Skills
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Shyness/Introversion
  • Anger Management
  • Life Transitions
  • Family of Origin Issues
  • History of Abuse
  • Mood Swings
  • Creativity
  • Cultural Conflicts
  • Spiritual Crisis
  • Self-Destructive Behaviors

I also provide Play Therapy for children from 6 years old and up. Play Therapy includes expressive arts, puppets, dollhouses, game play, and Sandplay. These are therapeutic approaches that allow children to express themselves without needing the full verbal and cognitive skills that characterize talk-therapy as used with teenagers and adults.
